Did you know that besides the
planet and stars, our space are also filled with space rocks? The space rocks
are comets, asteroids and meteoroids. So what is the difference between these
three rocks? Comets consist of ice, rock, gas and dust. The comets are said to
come from the cold regions outside planet Neptune and Pluto, known as Oort
clouds. When the comet approaches the Sun, the heat from the Sun will cause the
ice nucleus to evaporate into gas and the solar wind will push the gas away
from the Sun hence produce the blue and yellow comets tails.
The asteroid consists of rocks, but some also made of
metals such as Nickel and iron. Asteroids do not have a fixed shape and their
size can reach as much as a dwarf planet. Some asteroids also have moon orbiting
them. Meteoroids are small pieces of asteroids or comets. When it enters
Earth's atmosphere, it is known as meteor or shooting star and meteorite if it
passes through the atmosphere and land on Earth.
